Aldridge & Walsall Ladies first team have competed in National League, now known as the Slazenger England Hockey League, for the last 10 years - quite some achievement for a small club!
The team were in the North Division up until the end of the season in 2008 when National League was restructured to ensure travelling times were minimised and the number of teams per league was standardised. Aldridge & Walsall Ladies are now in the North Conference division of the England Hockey League.
Due to the restructuring, it means that away games are not always the all-day commitment that was previously required. Most teams in the league are within an hour and a half journey - although our once a year trip to Cornwall with an overnight stop provides a good social.
Most games are played on a Saturday, with the occasional game on a Sunday. Aldridge & Walsall Ladies do not compete in any National cups or trophies, so double headers are rare, but the Staffordshire cup is entered and has been won many times.
As well as outdoor hockey, Aldridge & Walsall Ladies also field a very successful indoor team which won promotion to the premier division of the England Indoor Hockey League in 2008.
Aldridge & Walsall Ladies first team train and play on the water-based pitch at Hamstead Hall School. We train on a Wednesday night from 7:30pm until 9pm with our own coach, Alison Glazier - see below for Ali's profile.
We're always looking for new members to join the team, so if you'd like to join us, read on to meet some of the people who run the team and get in touch...
